Laurie Patton became a professional musician at age 13 when playing in the pit orchestra with the Children's Theatre Company. She continued to play in a freelance capacity for many years and also taught private flute lessons. She attended the University of Minnesota and the New England Conservatory of Music.

Susan Jones is a graduate of Minnesota State University, where she studied oboe with Dr. Clayton Tiede. She also studied with R.J. Angelucci of the Minnesota Orchestra and at the University of Northern Iowa with Thomas Barry. Susan performs as a soloist, in a trio, and in a woodwind octet. She has been a member of the St. Paul Civic, Minnetonka, Augustana, Mankato Symphonies and The Larry Dalton Orchestra. She teaches private lessons and ensemble classes at Chaska Music Studios.

Native of Osaka, Japan, pianist Rie Tanaka is a prize winner of international and national competitions in Japan and the U.S. She won West Central MTNA Young Artist Competition (Winner), Schubert Club Scholarship Competition (1st Prize), Thursday Musical Young Artist Scholarship Competition (1st Prize), Chautauqua International Piano Competition (Finalist, Best Performance of Commissioned Piece Award), 8th Rosenstock International Piano Competition (Jury Special Award), Kyoto Piano Concours (Bronze), and more.

Rie attended the prestigious music special course at the Yuhigaoka High School in Osaka, Japan, which led to the musical tour in Vienna, Austria, performing in Wiener Musikverein. She received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where she studied under Raffi Besalyan. She received a Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Minnesota under the guidance of Alexander Braginsky.

Rie is a piano faculty at the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music, and Mount Olivet School of Music. She is a frequent guest artist/faculty at the South Beach Chamber Ensemble, Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute, Green Lake Chamber Music Camp, and Minnesota International Piano Camp.

Thursday Musical Debut

Jennifer Wallis is a graduate of University of Northwestern – Saint Paul, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and was a student of Carol Eikum. She participated in the University of Northwestern Choir as soprano section leader and was also involved in the university’s Opera Workshop, appearing in Suor Angelica by Puccini, various scenes from the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan, and The Bartered Bride by Bedřich Smetana. She continued her post-graduate vocal studies with Doreen Hutchings and most recently with Patricia Kent. Jennifer sang in the VocalEssence Chorus for six seasons and is an active soloist and member of the Sanctuary Choir at Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton. She has been a voice instructor for The Academy of Music at her alma mater for the past thirteen years where she has worked with singers of all ages.
